Individual Therapy

Individual therapy begins with an evaluation where patients explore why they have come to therapy, investigate their personal and family history, determine their needs and establish their personal therapy goals.

During the initial therapy evaluation Dr. Jacobs listens, and asks questions to give the process direction and structure. As therapy proceeds Dr. Jacobs offers feedback and insights based on her experience and expertise as a psychologist. She helps patients examine potential patterns in their behavior, understand how their past influences their present, and connect their head to their heart. Individual therapy sessions are each 45 minutes in length.

Dr. Jacobs has extensive experience working individually with individuals on a wide variety of issues including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Situational stress
  • Grief and loss
  • Gay and lesbian issues
  • Work-related issues
  • Relationship problems
  • Eating disorders
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Childhood abuse and incest
  • Anger management
  • Ending a relationship
  • Alcohol and substance abuse

Many patients in individual therapy elect to participate in group therapy simultaneously.
